Thousands of Nicaraguans have fled to Costa Rica after the government unleashed a manhunt for demonstrators, students, doctors and human rights activists. After the "Operation Cleanup" executed by police and pro-government paramilitary groups, those who stood in the front lines of the protests against Daniel Ortega are hunted down house by house. Many had to cross mountains and rivers to cross the border controlled by the Nicaraguan army. Families with children, young people and adults request asylum at the Costa Rican border post of Peñas Blancas.
